Buying a used boat: preparing your first viewing

Organise your questions to build a clear understanding of the boat.

Define how you will use it

Before viewing, define your plans: day trips, cruising, family boating or entertaining guests. Size, cabins, equipment and home port should suit that use. Budget for operating and maintenance costs alongside the purchase price.

Prepare questions and checks

Ask about maintenance history, engine hours, completed work and included equipment. A listing or viewing does not replace appropriate technical and documentary checks. An independent survey and sea trial may be appropriate before committing. DIPSEA can coordinate discussions and the stages of your purchase project.
